‘Beautiful and Useable; Tools for Thinking and Making’

Between Thursday and Friday, I attended Craft in the Bay and Tent, London for two contrasting exhibitions. Tent felt like it was more Product Design based, as it informed newcomers in the Industry of pricing, what is currently being designed and what is on the market, whereas I felt Craft in the Bay was more suited to my choice of degree as a Maker. Though, like Tent, Craft in the Bay gave a good indication of pricing and information on applications to join the Welsh Arts Guild.

I thought this piece was decorative and useful, as I believe it is a container and it fits in quite well with my project theme of Beautiful and Useable. I loved the design and the carefully painted detail that adorns the top of the piece. The blue contrasts nicely against the white. As a piece that looks so fragile, I am interested in how heavy it would be to pick up or hold.

I was very interested in the Dulux ColourFutures16 displays as they reminded me of the colour wheel. As an artist, I am drawn to colours and found that ColourFutures16 was a good use of complementary colours. I particularly like the gradiation of colours adorning the floor, showing the different hues of colours.
